Iraq: A study to rehabilitate an iron and steel plant

The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mr Manhal Al-Khabaz, confirmed that his Ministry would support the State Company for Iron and Steel in Basra, and work on rehabilitating the iron and steel plant and bringing it back to work.

The Minister said during his meeting with the General Manager of the Company, Mr Abbas Hayal, in the presence of the Prime Minister’s advisor of investment affairs and several Directors in the Ministry: “We looked at the sites of the company’s rehabilitation, and discussed to find ways to finance the material for re-producing the Company and to bring it back to work to support the national economy.”

He also added, “There is a study of internal borrowing or from companies to rehabilitate the iron and steel plant.”
