He State Company For Iron and Steel (SCIS) is a subsidiary of Ministry of Industry – Iraq and Minerals and is wholly owned by the government . The company specializes in the production of wire rod , sections and steel pipes , located in Khor al-Zubair complex , about 45km south of the center of Basra and near the city of Umm Qasr , and only 5km from the port of Khor al-Zubair .
The company was founded in the early seventies by the French company and was launched in 1978.
