Salzgitter Flachstahl, located in Salzgitter, Germany has awarded SMS group the contract to supply a new process model for the cooling section in its hot rolling mill.
According to Salzgitter Flachstahl, the crucial factor behind its decision in favor of SMS group was “the combination of price and technological concept”.
As part of the order, the existing model, which came from a third-party supplier and currently requires manual operator interventions, will be replaced by a state-of-the-art X-Pact® Cooling Section Control system that is operated fully automatically.
To ensure the best possible operational reliability of the plant during commissioning, provision was made for a ‘shadow mode’, and a fail-safe change-over concept was drawn up. In addition to standard functionalities, special functions and the X-Pact® Microstructure Property Model are also included in SMS group’s scope of supply.
The order is part of a series of upgrades planned by Salzgitter and is aimed at putting in place future-proof control concepts and technology.
On-site implementation is scheduled for the first half of 2023 and will be seamlessly integrated into the existing model landscape.
