The Union of Steel Producers of Ukraine said that steel production in Ukraine decreased by 70.7% in 2022, to 6.26 million tonnes.
The Union also indicated in a statement that final steel products decreased by 72% to reach 5.35 million tonnes, and that iron ore production decreased by 69.8% to reach 6.39 million tonnes in 2022.
This decrease was due to the Russian invasion and the shutdown of the main steel mills, in addition to disturbances in the electricity supply and affected steel production activities, especially in the second half of 2022. As well as the difficulty of having access to Ukrainian seaports, the decline in the use of river transport, and the need to change the route of steel exports and imports of raw materials across Europe.
