According to preliminary statistics data issued by the US Department of Commerce, the total US rebar steel imports amounted to 76,844 tonnes in March 2023, a decrease of 38.8 per cent from February and a decrease of 47.8 per cent from March 2022 levels.
By value, total rebar imports amounted to $53.6 million in March 2023, compared to $89.9 million in February and $126.6 million in March 2022.
The United States imported a great deal of rebar steel from Algeria in March 2023, amounting to 39,980 tonnes, compared to 50,522 tonnes in February, and 58,519 tonnes in March 2022.
Other primary sources of imported rebar steel include Canada, with a volume of 13,245 tonnes, Vietnam, with a volume of 10,586 tonnes, Mexico, with a volume of 8,595 tonnes and the Dominican Republic, with a volume of 4,204 tonnes.
