Gulf meeting discusses free trade agreements with international blocs

Trade ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council state, during their 64th meeting held today in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, will discuss several topics on the agenda. Most notably, the developments in the negotiations of free trade agreements with countries and international blocs, discussing the challenges of intra-trade between the GCC countries, the work of the affiliated committees of the Trade Cooperation Committee, and many other topics.

Undersecretaries of the ministries of commerce in the GCC countries concluded their 56th meeting yesterday, Wednesday, to prepare for the trade ministers meeting. Farid Al-Asali, Deputy Governor for International Agreements and Organizations at the General Authority for Foreign Trade, participated in the preparatory meeting in the presence of the undersecretaries of the ministries of trade in the GCC countries.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Saleh bin Saeed Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion for Trade and Industry in the Sultanate of Oman, the current presidency, with the participation of the Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Commerce in the GCC countries. In addition to Khalid Al Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary for Economic and Development Affairs in the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council.

The meeting owners discussed several topics on their agenda related to the work plans of the technical committees of the Trade Cooperation Committee, which aim to deepen integration between the GCC countries in the field of internal and external trade, consumer protection, small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship. As well as negotiations with international blocs. Accordingly, they made numerous recommendations.

In a related context, the undersecretaries of the ministries of industries in the GCC countries held their 42nd preparatory meeting for the 50th Industrial Cooperation Committee yesterday in the Omani capital, Muscat, headed by Dr Saleh bin Saeed Masan.

The meeting discussed several topics on the agenda of the Industrial Cooperation Committee aimed at encouraging industry in the GCC countries and removing obstacles facing it, and some subjects of interest to the industrial sector in the GCC countries.

The Gulf industrial undersecretaries approved several recommendations, in addition to following up on the developments of creating a unified definition of the Gulf national product, the executive regulations of the cooperative industrial organization system (law) in the GCC countries, and other topics. The meeting also reviewed many reports related to the work of the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting and the Office of the Technical Secretariat for Combating Harmful Practices in International Trade.
