The Russian war on Ukraine caused an increase in the demand for Ukrainian female labor in iron and steel factories, in light of the scarcity of male labor due to most of them joining the army.
According to what the British newspaper “Financial Times” reported yesterday, Sunday, the Ukrainian company “ArcelorMittal” – the largest steel producer in the world – has lost about 3,500 of its male workers since the beginning of the war in February 2022, and more are likely to follow this year. Among its workforce of 18,000 people.
Managers at Arcelor Mittal in the city of Kryvyi Rih – the birthplace of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky – say that “employing more female workers has become a matter of life or death for the company.”
