The orders received by the struggling German steel industry during the summer months fell compared to last year, due to the strong increase in energy prices due to geopolitical conditions.
The Federal Statistical Office explained that the value of orders received by the sector in the third quarter of this year decreased by 4% compared to the second quarter, and 9.7% year-on-year, which reduced the backlog of orders by 4.9% compared to the previous quarter.
Production fell by 0.7% in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, while production rose by 2.7% compared to the same period last year.
In the first quarter of 2022, production was 5.2% higher than it is currently.
In the third quarter of this year, July-September, the revenues of companies operating in the sector fell by 1.8% compared to the second quarter.
By the end of last September, the number of workers in the sector reached 71,200 people, an increase of 1.7% over the year 2023, and more than ever since the end of September 2020.
