Egypt’s iron and steel exports down 29% in 5 months

 

 

Export Council for Building Materials said that  Egypt’s exports of iron and steel during the first five months of 2019 decreased by 29% y-o-y to $355 million, compared with $498 million during the same period 2018, according to the Middle East News Agency.

 

 

Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada, Sudan, Italy, Thailand, Algeria, Spain, Jordan and Yemen accounted for 77.2% of Egypt’s total steel and steel exports during the first five months of this year at $ 274 million.

Saudi Arabia topped the list of the largest importers from Egypt in the iron and steel sector during the period from January – May 2019 to $98 million, up 249% compared to the same period of 2018 to $28 million.

 

 

Egypt’s exports of iron and steel to the Italian market fell by 65% to $22 million in the first five months of this year compared to $63 million during the same period of 2018, and  exports to Thailand about $20 million.

 

 

Egypt’s iron and steel exports to the United States during the period January – May 2019 to about $ 29 million, compared to $ 44 million during the same period of 2018, a decline of 34%, and Spain by 73 % to $ 14 million, compared to $ 53 million, To $ 24 million compared to $ 36 million.

 

 

Yemen’s iron and steel exports rose 147% in the first five months of this year to $ 11 million from $ 5 million in the same period in 2018, and to Canada by 12% to $ 28 million from $ 22,000 in the same period in 2018, While Jordan fell by 7% to $14 million for $15 million and Algeria by 47% to $14 million for $27 million.
