US steel production up 2.4%, utilisation above 80%
US crude steel production continues to recover. Last week it rallied to its highest level since March 2020. A capacity utilisation rate exceeded the psychological mark of 80%.
In the week ended May 29, US crude steel production reached 1.83 million st, up by 2.4% compared to the output fixed in the previous week, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
A capacity utilisation rate increased by 2.5 p.p. to 81.5%.
Adjusted year-to-date production was 35.9 million st, rising by 10% year-on-year. Utilisation rose by 8.2 p.p. to 78.1%, according to the report.
