A New Vision for the Development of the Arab Iron and Steel Union
2026

A New Vision for the Development of the Arab Iron and Steel Union

The Arab Iron and Steel Union has embarked on a new phase of growth and institutional transformation under the leadership of Eng. Ahmed Ezz, Chairman of the Arab Iron and Steel Union and Chairman of Ezz Steel Group. This new chapter is guided by a comprehensive strategic vision aimed at strengthening the Union's role as the leading regional organization supporting the Arab iron and steel industry, while modernizing its services to respond effectively to global developments and the evolving challenges facing the sector.

In this context, the Union's Board of Directors, during its 132nd Ordinary Meeting held in Algiers in January 2026, approved a comprehensive development plan designed to enhance the Union's regional and international presence, improve the range and quality of services provided to member companies, strengthen the competitiveness of the Arab steel industry, and reinforce the principles of financial and institutional sustainability.

The new strategic vision includes a comprehensive restructuring of the Union's activities through the establishment of several specialized departments, creating a more agile and forward-looking organization capable of keeping pace with the rapid transformation of the global iron and steel industry. The key initiatives include:

1. Department of Media and Corporate Communications

This newly established department is responsible for strengthening communication with the iron and steel community and raising awareness of industry developments and challenges. Its responsibilities include publishing periodic media reports, organizing press conferences, seminars, and workshops, expanding the Union's digital content, and enhancing its presence across social media platforms. The department also oversees the continuous development of the Union's official website and provides media support to member companies, thereby strengthening the Union's regional and international profile.

2. Department of Economic Studies and Market Research

This department represents one of the cornerstones of the Union's new strategic vision. Its mission is to develop a comprehensive knowledge base on the Arab iron and steel industry and provide economic studies and market intelligence that support informed decision-making by member companies.

Its responsibilities include publishing regular reports on steel and raw material markets, monitoring international trade policies and trade defense measures, producing Arab and global steel price indicators, assessing the implications of the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and preparing benchmarking studies together with medium- and long-term market outlook reports.

3. Department of Training and Human Resources Development

Recognizing that human capital is fundamental to the sustainable development of the steel industry, the Union has established a dedicated department for training and human resources development. The department is tasked with enhancing the technical and managerial capabilities of professionals working in the iron and steel sector through specialized training programmes covering all major fields of the industry. It also promotes the exchange of expertise and best practices among Arab companies, contributing to the long-term competitiveness and productivity of the sector.

The adoption of this strategic vision marks the beginning of a new era for the Arab Iron and Steel Union—one founded on knowledge, innovation, digital transformation, and deeper Arab industrial integration. Through these initiatives, the Union is strengthening its capacity to play an even more influential role in supporting the Arab iron and steel industry, enabling it to address global challenges, capitalize on emerging opportunities, and contribute to the sustainable growth and competitiveness of the sector at both the regional and international levels.

Specialized Committees

AISU Committees

Two specialized committees acting as the technical and economic arms of AISU.

Economic Committee

The Committee's objective is to examine issues related to the iron and steel industry, with particular emphasis on economic developments and the factors affecting production, consumption, and investment in expansion projects. To support this objective, the Committee collects data from member companies to compile accurate and comprehensive industry statistics. The Committee also examines the economic factors influencing the steel industry, including current and projected demand, thereby providing insights into market conditions and emerging trends.

Furthermore, the Committee provides information on the steel industry in the Arab countries, including production indicators, to assist member companies in making informed business decisions. It is also responsible for regularly updating the Union's databases with accurate and up-to-date statistical information.
