Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) announced the registration of a documented carbon footprint of 139 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per ton of rebar produced in Abu Dhabi, and 218 kilograms per ton at its Sharjah facility.

The company clarified that these levels are below the usual averages ranging between 600 and 700 kilograms per ton for rebar made from scrap, reinforcing the UAE's direction towards producing low-carbon building materials.

The data was independently verified under the CARES program for product environmental performance data, enabling developers and contractors to assess emissions associated with building materials on a uniform basis.

Asem Hussein, the company's Founder and CEO, stated that the achievement represents a significant step for the UAE steel industry, noting the company's reliance on 100% locally recycled scrap and fully electric production processes.

This development enhances the opportunities for using low-carbon rebar in construction and infrastructure projects, with the increasing importance of disclosing and verifying emissions.
