German group Salzgitter AG has inaugurated a new hot plate levelling machine at its Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision GmbH plant in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The company stated that this investment is one of the largest single investments in the site's history, aiming to enhance its capabilities in processing heavy steel plates, particularly those used in the energy sector's infrastructure.
The machine was developed in collaboration with the Austrian company SMS group. Salzgitter invested tens of millions of euros in dismantling the previous equipment and installing the new, more capable machine.
The machine enables the plant to produce thicker, high-strength steel plates that can be used in foundations and supporting structures for offshore wind turbines.
Salzgitter is one of Germany's largest steel industry groups, producing flat and long steel products as well as pipe products. It also has activities in trade, engineering, and technology.
