The Training Department of the Arab Iron and Steel Union (AISU), in cooperation with Ezz Steel Group, is organizing a specialized training program for managing ship charter contracts titled: "Ship Chartering and Maritime Transport Contracts Management for the Iron and Steel Industry," from October 18 to 21, 2026, in Cairo. The program will feature a selection of distinguished lecturers and specialized experts from Ezz Steel Group.

The program aims to train 14 representatives from AISU member companies, including: Steel (Tunisia), Al-Ashry (Egypt), MSTEEL (UAE), Libyan Iron and Steel Company, Qatar Steel, and Foulath (Bahrain). The program seeks to develop the practical skills of employees in procurement, import/export, logistics, supply chains, legal affairs, commercial departments, and maritime transport and shipping, as well as companies involved in the trade of raw materials, iron, and steel.

The program focuses on understanding the types of ship charter contracts and selecting the appropriate type for transporting iron and steel raw materials and products, analyzing commercial and legal clauses, managing risks of delays, claims, and compensations, as well as developing negotiation skills and reducing transport and logistics costs. It also aims to enhance the supply chain management efficiency of Arab iron and steel companies.

The training adopts an applied methodology that combines specialized lectures, industrial case studies, contract analysis, negotiation simulations, and practical exercises. This approach enables participants to move from understanding terminology to being able to read charter contracts and analyze the impact of their clauses on costs, risks, and operational decisions.

The program includes a key case study analyzing the impact of reducing shipping costs by two dollars per ton on a plant that imports two million tons of iron ore annually, equivalent to an annual saving of four million dollars. This serves as a model illustrating the direct relationship between maritime transport contract management and steel production costs.

The program concludes on October 21, 2026, with a field visit to Ain Sokhna Port to practically learn about ship reception procedures, quay operations, handling, loading and unloading, managing vessel time and delay claims, and linking these operations to the supply chain of raw materials and products in the iron and steel industry.

The program's outcomes aim to empower participants to read charter contracts, identify obligations and risks, calculate financial impact, discuss terms and negotiate them, and make more efficient decisions in maritime transport operations. It also provides a platform for exchanging experiences among participants from Arab member companies and countries of the Union.
