The Media Center of the Arab Iron and Steel Union (AISU) has issued the twentieth edition of the Arab Steel Bulletin, including a wide range of files and issues concerning the Arab and global iron and steel industry. It addresses the most prominent economic, commercial, climate, and technological transformations affecting the industry's future, its competitiveness, and its access to global markets.

The cover of this edition features Eng. Mohamed Abdelmalek Al-Faqih, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company, who affirmed in a special interview with the Arab Steel Bulletin that Libya possesses the elements to become a regional hub for the iron and steel industry.

The interview is followed by an extensive report on the Libyan steel industry, reviewing its capabilities and the challenges it faces, primarily the electricity crisis, weak infrastructure, and exchange rate fluctuations.

The editorial addresses the issue of Arab steel through a comparative analysis of the European model, where the industry has evolved into an integrated system that has reshaped the rules of competition. It focuses on the future of Arab exports and their access to global markets, highlighting the need for a more integrated Arab vision towards the industry and its external markets.

This edition's feature story, titled 'The European Fortress,' analyzes how Brussels has imposed further restrictions regulating competition rules by adopting the 'melt and pour' certification, and its implications for steel trade and international markets.

The bulletin also includes a special interview with Adina Adler, Executive Director of the World Steel Climate Council, who stated that the Arab region is poised to produce low-emission steel by 2035.

Accompanying the interview is a profile detailing her career journey between the White House, the steel industry, and her academic path. It also features a Q&A report on the World Steel Climate Council and a comparison between the steel climate standard and three major carbon emission measurement frameworks.

In an analysis blending history, economics, and industry, this edition explores the history of the steel industry from the perspective of world literature, reviewing prominent literary works that have addressed the industry's crises in Europe, the United States, Russia, China, and elsewhere, along with the associated social and economic transformations since the Industrial Revolution up to the 21st century.

The Arab Steel Bulletin also publishes an interview with a Tunisian financial control expert, who discussed the pressures exerted by fluctuating energy and raw material prices on the iron and steel sector, emphasizing the importance of financial control as a key tool for ensuring corporate sustainability and navigating market volatility.

The bulletin reviews a selection of the most significant Arab and global news and developments in the iron and steel industry, including:

• The European Parliament supports expanding the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to include finished steel products.

• Turkish steel producers discuss the repercussions of CBAM.

• Shipping rates from China to the Mediterranean decrease as vessels return to the Suez Canal.

• Gulf states reject imposing unilateral tariffs or conditions on traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

• Strong Arab participation and widespread praise for the AISU training program, held in collaboration with Ezz Steel.

• Algeria moves towards localizing the production of phosphate transport vehicles.

• Sudanese mining companies threaten to halt gold production in early October.

• ArcelorMittal aims to reduce cement process emissions by 30% by 2030.

• Canada maintains anti-dumping duties on rebar imports from nine countries.

• India: Exports of minerals and ores account for 1.8% of global demand.

The twentieth edition continues the efforts of the Arab Iron and Steel Union's Media Center in providing specialized content that combines expertise, analysis, interviews, and investigative reports. It monitors the rapid transformations in the Arab and global iron and steel industry, offering specialists, decision-makers, and industry stakeholders a broader perspective on market, trade, energy, climate, and investment developments.
