The Media Center of the Arab Iron and Steel Union issued the 16th issue of the Weekly Bulletin for Arab and international iron and steel news and issues, published in both Arabic and English, covering the period from August 22-28, 2026.

The editorial of the new issue was titled "The Indian Steel Experience: Between Challenge and Response," while the issue's main feature was titled: "Indian Steel: The Fastest Growing in the World." It includes numerous reports and news addressing the Indian government's goals and ambitions to achieve its target of producing 300 million tons of crude iron by 2030-2031. The issue also published a detailed report by the Indian Ministry of Steel, announcing production and consumption volumes, confirming that India ranks second globally in steel production with 164.9 million tons, after China and before the United States, alongside an interview with Indian expert Arihant Singhi on the rise of Indian steel.

The bulletin discusses the story of the Middletown Works, one of America's oldest steel mills, which, like other mills in the Rust Belt, suffered due to the economic downturn in the 1970s and 1980s. However, it is receiving development investments amounting to one billion dollars, coinciding with the visit of US Vice President J.D. Vance, who boasted to the factory workers that his grandfather had worked as a welder there for four decades. The feature covers the story of the American steel industry over more than a century and a half.

In parallel, the Algerian company Sonatrach emerged among the Arab and international news with its move to conclude a new agreement with the Indian Oil Corporation (Indian Oil) to supply liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) during 2027.

As part of its weekly follow-up, the bulletin addressed a number of topics reviewing the Arab steel industry map, including: a study titled "The Gulf Advances on Europe in Low-Carbon Steel," "Emirates Steel Continues Investment in High-Strength Rebar," "Electricity Crisis Halts Production at the Libyan Iron and Steel Company," in addition to a report by the Ukrainian GMK Center on the demand for iron in Libya, which is heading towards its highest level in 15 years.

The bulletin also reviews a range of global reports and news in its issue, most notably an extensive report on the customs tariff dispute between the United States and Canada after the failure of negotiations between the two countries, and the report issued by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), which monitors a 0.3% decline in global crude steel production in July 2026. While the European steel sector calls for expanding the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Washington is betting on old coal mines to secure rare earth minerals.
