Ukraine's steel industry faces widespread paralysis after three of its largest plants were hit by Russian attacks, leading to their shutdown and the loss of most of the sector's core production capacity.
According to a report by the Financial Times, citing representatives of major producers, ballistic missiles caused disruptions at three of the country's largest steel plants, located in the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, employing over 15,000 people.
These plants collectively produced about 90% of Ukraine's steel output. Plants operated by Metinvest and ArcelorMittal, including the steel plant in Kryvyi Rih, are currently completely shut down.
Oleksandr Vodoviz, head of the CEO's office at Metinvest, stated that Ukraine effectively no longer has an active steel industry, warning of broad economic repercussions if the closures continue.
