Iron and raw material prices recorded mixed movements at the beginning of August, according to data obtained by the Arab Iron and Steel Union. Scrap prices remained stable, while iron ore and some steel product prices declined, whereas billet prices increased in several markets.
Prices of HMS 1&2 (80:20) scrap, exported from the United States to Turkey, remained unchanged at US$376 per tonne (CFR) compared with the previous week.
Australian 62% Fe iron ore prices declined to US$96 per tonne (CFR), down US$3 per tonne from the previous week.
In the billet market, Russian billet prices increased to US$470–475 per tonne (FOB), up US$3 per tonne. Billet supplied to Turkey from the CIS also rose to US$485–495 per tonne (CFR), an increase of US$5 per tonne. Meanwhile, Chinese billet prices fell to US$455–460 per tonne (FOB), down US$5 per tonne.
Regarding finished steel products, Turkish rebar prices declined to US$565–585 per tonne (FOB), a decrease of US$3 per tonne, while Turkish wire rod prices remained stable at US$575–585 per tonne (FOB).
Prices of Russian hot-rolled coils (HRC) also remained stable at US$510–520 per tonne (FOB), while Chinese 1 mm cold-rolled coils (CRC) held steady at US$530–550 per tonne (FOB).
