Emsteel Expands Production Lines at AED 625 Million

Saeed Ghumran Al Rumaithi, CEO of Emsteel Group, said that the group is serving as the metals and manufacturing sector partner for the 2025 edition of the forum, supporting the national industrial strategy.

Al Rumaithi revealed that the group is expanding its production lines to supply the market with new steel products at a cost of AED 625 million. This expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

In statements to the media, he explained that Emsteel contributes 10% of Abu Dhabi’s total industrial production and 60% of the UAE’s steel production. It also invests approximately AED 3.5 billion in local procurement as part of the local content program.

Al Rumaithi said, “The group plays a pivotal role in developing national capabilities and achieving self-sufficiency in the supply chain. It is also participating in the “300 Billion Project” to enhance the national strategy for industry and advanced technology in the UAE.”

Al Rumaithi stated that the group invested AED 3.5 billion in local procurement, in collaboration with 1,365 suppliers within the UAE.

He said, “In 2024, 48.2% of total procurement was secured from local sources.”

Regarding Emsteel’s efforts to consolidate its position in sustainable industrial practices, Al Rumaithi explained, “The group operates with a carbon intensity 45% lower than the global steel sector average and is the first plant in the region to produce green steel using hydrogen from a solar-powered pilot plant.”

Regarding the achievements that enhance Emsteel’s role in industrial growth, he said, “Spending on innovation and investment increased by 127% between 2020 and 2024, and the launch of an AED 625 million asset enhancement program to expand production capacities. The first phase includes the production of high-strength rebars and advanced heavy sections, while the second phase focuses on special alloy bars.”

He stated that Emsteel has been able to meet the needs of the petrochemical, energy, and manufacturing sectors through value-added products.

He explained that the group aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% in the steel sector and 30% in the cement sector by 2030, based on a 2019 baseline.

He said, “Emsteel has succeeded in reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 23% between 2019 and 2023, as its strategy relies on a combination of green hydrogen, carbon capture technologies, and the effective integration of solar energy.”
