As part of the objectives of the Arab Iron and Steel Union to support human development and enhance skills in the iron and steel sector among Arab steel companies, the Arab Iron and Steel Union, in cooperation with Ezz Steel, is implementing the third program in a series of joint training programs entitled “Rebar and Wire Rod Rolling Technology”, held from 14 to 25 December 2025.
The program witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of technical professionals from member companies, including Emsteel, Qatar Steel, Bahrain Steel, Saudi Steel, the Libyan Iron and Steel Company, and El-Fouladh Tunisia.
The program offers an integrated training curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, covering the following key areas:

Orientation and occupational safety, including an overview of rebar and wire rod rolling mills.

Fundamentals of rolling technology, covering rolling lines, their components and functions, and roll pass design.

Reheating furnaces, focusing on operating principles, in addition to field visits to reheating furnaces at rebar and wire rod mills.

Thermo-mechanical processes in bar and wire rod mills, including Quenching and Tempering (QTB) systems.

Operating lines and areas, including rebar and wire rod rolling lines, rolling mill workshops and equipment, and non-twisting block units.

Finishing facilities for rebar and wire rod products.

Troubleshooting in rolling lines, along with an introduction to overhead crane systems.

Quality and testing, including long product quality and the role of central laboratories.

Maintenance, through an overview of the integrated maintenance system, the central repair workshop, and participation in maintenance day activities in accordance with the monthly plan.
The organization of these programs falls within the Arab Iron and Steel Union’s strategy to strengthen the technical and technological capabilities of professionals in the iron and steel sector across Arab countries, through specialized training programs conducted at Ezz Steel’s facilities in the Arab Republic of Egypt. These programs address strategic topics, including direct reduction technologies, melting plant concepts, rebar and wire rod rolling, as well as hydraulic and pneumatic applications in the steel industry.
This program represents the third phase in a series of joint training initiatives between the Union and Ezz Steel, with more advanced programs planned for the coming period. This reflects the joint commitment to developing technical and managerial skills, enhancing cooperation, and promoting the exchange of expertise among member companies, thereby contributing to improving the regional and international competitiveness of the Arab iron and steel industry.
