Air Separation Units (ASUs) in Steel Plants

Maintenance and Reliability

Program Description

Introduction

Air Separation Units (ASUs) are designed to separate atmospheric air into its primary components, mainly oxygen and nitrogen, and in many cases argon and other rare inert gases. The most widely used air separation technology is cryogenic distillation. Cryogenic Air Separation Units are primarily installed to supply high-purity oxygen and nitrogen for steelmaking processes, while also producing argon as a valuable by-product.
