Clean Steel Production

Production and Steel Technology

Program Description

The properties of any iron or steel grade depend largely on its chemical composition. These properties can be significantly enhanced through appropriate heating, refining, and forming processes to achieve the desired metallurgical characteristics. With the increasing demand for high-quality steels in automotive, energy, construction, and engineering applications, the production of clean steel has become a key objective in modern steelmaking. Clean steel refers to steel with very low levels of non-metallic inclusions, dissolved gases, and harmful residual elements, resulting in superior mechanical properties, improved weldability, enhanced fatigue resistance, and longer service life.

Program Contents:

  • Overview of the different steelmaking processes.
  • Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology and steel production.
  • Definition of clean steel and its chemical composition requirements.
  • Physicochemical principles of clean steel production.
  • Reduction of undesirable elements to produce clean steel.
  • Control and removal of dissolved gases (oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen).
  • Modern secondary metallurgy technologies and ladle treatment for clean steel production.
  • Chemical composition control through sampling and analysis to ensure proper steel refining and deoxidation.
