Mechanical breakdown analysis and ways to avoid

Maintenance and Reliability

Program Description

Introduction:

Mechanical failure analysis is the process of collecting and analysing the data needed to determine the causes of failure of part or all of a piece of equipment. Preventing failure is an important field in the study of materials used in engineering design, and there are many well-known methods for analysing the failure of engineering materials, which helps modify engineering designs to avoid failures as far as possible.

Course target:

Reduce material and human losses when mechanical failures occur, and provide specialists with the real causes of a particular failure so that it is not repeated.

Contents:

  • Types of failures.
  • Causes of failures
    • Material defects.
    • Manufacturing defects.
    • Assembly and installation errors.
    • Maintenance and operation errors.
  • Collecting information on parts and samples.
  • Tests
    • Preliminary test of the failed part.
    • Non-destructive testing.
    • Mechanical testing.
  • Cleaning fracture surfaces
    • Macroscopic examination (1 to 100×) of fracture surfaces.
    • Microscopic examination (greater than 100×) of fracture surfaces.
  • Analysing causes, drawing conclusions and writing the report.
