Data from the Ukrainian Steel Association Ukrmetallurgprom showed that Ukraine’s steel exports fell by 13% in the January–August 2025 period, totaling 2.48 million mt compared to 2.85 million mt in the same period of 2024.
Meanwhile, domestic consumption increased by 22.4% to 2.81 million mt, of which 1.04 million mt was supplied through imports, which themselves rose by 25.1%.
Semi-finished steel exports recorded the sharpest decline, down 39.9% to 803,000 mt, while long steel exports rose by 44.6% to 577,000 mt. Flat steel exports remained stable at around 1.1 million mt.
On the imports side, flat products accounted for 70.2%, long products for 21%, while the share of semi-finished products rose to 8.8%.
The EU remained the main export destination for Ukraine, accounting for 81.4% of total exports, while other European countries topped the list of import suppliers with 52.7%.
