According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, from January to April 2023, China’s iron ore production reached 314,382 million tonnes, up 8% year-on-year.
In April, China’s total iron ore production amounted to 75.096 million tonnes, an increase of 0.7% compared to April of 2022, while it decreased by 13.1% monthly.
Iron ore import prices hit an overall downward trend in April amid lower production by steelmakers and sluggish demand for iron ore.
After reducing the steel production, the steel makers began to resume their production activities in mid-May, which boosted the iron ore prices to some extent.
