According to preliminary statistics data released by the US Department of Commerce, total US imports of rebar reached 193,326 tonnes in June 2023, up 171.5% from May and up 94.3% from June 2022 levels.
In terms of value, total rebar imports amounted to $123.0 million in June 2023, compared to $47.6 million in May and $104.2 million in June 2022.
The United States imported the largest amount of rebar from Algeria in June, at 94,059 tonnes, compared to 7,159 tons in May and 35,472 tonnes in June 2022.
Other major sources of imported reinforcing steel in June included Egypt with a quantity of 34,165 tonnes, Turkey with a quantity of 30,370 tonnes, Mexico with a quantity of 23,324 tonnes, and Canada with a quantity of 8,871 tonnes.
