According to customs statistics, in January this year, Japan’s steel scrap exports reached 458,014 tons, down 18.8% compared to 571,533 tons in the same month of the previous year.
During the given month, Vietnam was the largest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 209,028 tons, an increase of 55.4% year-on-year. Vietnam was followed by South Korea and Taiwan, which imported 138,906 tons and 45,730 tons of scrap, a decrease of 54.9% and an increase of 33.8%, respectively, on an annual basis.
Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 9,005 tons in January this year, down from 22,000 tons in the same period of the previous year.
