Thailand cancels preliminary anti-dumping duty on Chinese HDG

Thailand’s commerce ministry has cancelled a preliminary anti-dumping duty of 35.67% on imports of hot-dipped galvanised steel from China.

Until further notice, the ministry has cancelled, effective 1 June, the collection of a security deposit and will also return the collateral that has been collected for the anti-dumping duty.

The decision is temporary until a final investigation report is released.

The preliminary anti-dumping duty originally took effect from 3 August last year and targeted Chinese imports of 28 product lines starting with HS codes 7210491, 7210499, 7212301, and 7225929. There were exemptions for imports with thickness of 2.3mm and above, and those used in making automotive parts and white goods.

The Thai Anti-Dumping & Subsidy Committee has made this decision in accordance with the prevailing global steel trading situation and the volatile domestic situation. This includes the Covid-19 pandemic, which has adversely affected the global and Thai economies.
