SABIC participated as a strategic partner in the 2nd Saudi International Iron & Steel Conference 2022 in Riyadh from September 12 to 14 under the patronage of Bandar Al-Khorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, and Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment.
During a workshop on the first day of the conference, the company highlighted its innovative solutions and sustainability practices as one of the largest steel manufacturers in the Middle East.
It also demonstrated how it contributes to the achievement of Saudi Vision 2030 by fostering innovation and working on achieving carbon neutrality in the steel sector.
Omar Abdullah Al-Amoudi, Board Chairman of HADEED, a fully-owned steel manufacturing affiliate of SABIC; Salah Al-Ansari HADEED president; and Marwan Al-Mojil, General Manger, Commercial at HADEED and Vice President of National Committee for Steel Industry at the Federation of Saudi Chambers; attended the three-day conference.
Addressing a panel discussion on “MENA Steel Market Landscape,” Salah Al-Ansari said, “SABIC is optimistic about the future local steel demand, taking into consideration Saudi Vision 2030 and its associated mega projects. SABIC is ideally placed and is fully committed to helping lead the way to the realization of Vision 2030.”
“As KSA is one of the top net importers of steel, strategies are developed to focus on closing the import gaps. There are steel investment opportunities to fulfill the future growing demand. Within upstream investment, iron ore mining is located northwest of Saudi Arabia. Midstream investment has looked to square, slab, blooms, and round bars. And in downstream, investment is centered on thin gauge, plate, and added-value wire rods,” he added.
SABIC also had a booth in the exhibition arena of the conference. Visitors were briefed about the company’s innovative steel solutions and products. The booth also provided a good platform to engage with local and international customers.
The Saudi International Iron & Steel Conference is the largest in Saudi Arabia, organized by National Committee for Steel Industry. The 2nd Saudi International Iron & Steel Conference had 46 speakers, 24 sponsors, 24 exhibitors, and 10 sessions.
