Japan’s steel exports decreased by 2% in H1 2023

In June this year, Japan’s iron and steel product exports reached 2.83 million tonnes, down 6.3% month-on-month and 8.4% year-on-year, according to customs statistics from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).

From January to June this year, Japan’s iron and steel products exports amounted to 16.62 million tonnes, down 2.0% over the same period of the previous year.

In terms of Japan’s main iron and steel product export markets, in the first six months of this year, the country’s total iron and steel exports to South Korea reached 3.07 million tonnes, up 6.3%, while exports to China decreased by 34.6% to 1.40 million tonnes.

The volume of exports to Taiwan amounted to 821,303 tonnes, a decrease of 19.3%, and the total exports to Thailand amounted to 2.41 million tonnes, a decrease of 7.2%, while the total exports to the United States amounted to 598,359 tonnes, a decrease of 9.6% over the year.
