From January to July, Turkiye’s billet imports reached 2.24 million tonnes, an increase of 64.5%, year on year.
In that period, Turkiye imported 1,053,243 tonnes of billets from Russia, an increase of 19.8% year-on-year.
Algeria topped the Arab countries supplying billets to Turkiye with a volume of 414,800 tonnes, followed by Oman with a volume of 170,363 tonnes and Kuwait with a volume of 61,698 tonnes.
Arab Iron and Steel Union was established in Algeria in 1972 as the first Arab Union of the Arab countries to be founded under the Council of Economic Unity umbrella in the League of Arab States.
It is the first Arab organization to specialize in the iron and steel field, and its tasks fall within making plans aimed mainly at developing and growing the iron and steel industry in the Arab world.
