The rate of pollution caused by major steel companies in China decreased in the first quarter of 2023, according to data from the China Iron and Steel Association.
The total amount of waste water disposed by major steel companies fell by 16.39 percent year on year, and sulfur dioxide emissions fell by 15.75 percent during this period, according to the association.
The energy efficiency of these companies also improved, and electricity use per ton of steel decreased by 3.05 percent year-on-year, while water consumption per ton of steel decreased by 6 percent year-on-year.
Major steel companies also witnessed better profitability in the first quarter of this year, as profits rose from 2.55 billion yuan (about 368.3 million dollars) in January to 10.33 billion yuan in March, according to the data.
