Next week, the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company will export more than 17,000 tons of billets to a number of European and Arab countries, according to a company statement on Saturday.
According to the same statement, the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company (AQS) intends early next week to export more than 17,000 tons of “billet” as a first batch within a program prepared to export about 300,000 tons of various steel products to international markets.
The statement added that similar operations in significant quantities will be exported over the next few months to Arab and European countries in addition to Canada.
The statement indicated that the export of the first shipment of “billet” comes immediately after the direct reduction unit enters the production stage, which is the unit that is the “beating heart” of the company with a production capacity of 2.5 million tons annually of reduced iron, both cold and hot, which is characterized by its high quality. .
This modern and global technology (direct reduction) will contribute to achieving self-sufficiency and creating opportunities for export, thus embodying Algeria’s new perspective based on diversifying revenues outside the hydrocarbon sector, according to the statement.
It is noteworthy that the production capacity of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company reaches 2 million tons per year of steel products (rebar and wire rod) in its first phase, and that it will reach 4 million tons per year in the second phase.
