Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab met Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary Secretary of State, and Minister Delegate at the German Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection, and they discussed bilateral relations in the energy field, especially the joint measures implemented in the renewable energies field and energy efficiency.

Minister Mohamed Arkab and the German official discussed the possibility of cooperation between Algeria and Germany in mutually beneficial partnership projects, especially the development, transportation, and marketing of green hydrogen, especially since the Algerian company Sonatrach and German VNG have supported this approach.

The Algerian-German Energy Day was held under the title “Together towards new solutions for sustainable energy”, as the slogan came with the aim of working to spread low-carbon technologies, such as hydrogen, which is the cleanest fuel in the world, and one of the decarbonisation tools in the energy sector.

Sonatrach Group signed a memorandum of understanding with the German gas company “VNG-AG” aimed at studying the possibilities of cooperation to implement projects in the green hydrogen and ammonia field, with the aim of exporting them to Germany.

Initially, the focus will be on completing feasibility studies related to the hydrogen value chain, from production and transportation to marketing, with the aim of evaluating the potential of commercial projects that will be developed together in this field.

It is noteworthy that the Energy Day, which was established in 2015, comes with the support of the German Ministry of Economy and the Algerian Ministry of Energy, and aims to deepen cooperation between the two countries and support the energy transition in each of them, especially with Germany’s keenness to transfer its expertise in the field of energy transition.
