On February 21, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the Qatari capital, Doha, related to the completion of a feasibility study for the expansion of the Algerian-Qatari Iron and Steel Complex in Bellara (Jijel), Algeria.
This agreement was signed on the sidelines of the state visit of the President of Algeria, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the State of Qatar, at the invitation of its Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry, by the Ambassador of Algeria to the State of Qatar, Mustapha Boutoura, on the Algerian side, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Steel International, Khalid bin Hamad Al-Obaidli, on the Qatari side, in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab, and the Qatari Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh
Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani.
Thanks to the expansion project, the production capacity is expected to move from 2 million tonnes to 4 million tonnes annually.
This agreement comes within the framework of strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the economic aspect.
